Kyong is an excellent mix of semi-open Iron Bark, Spinifex forest country with approximately 7000 acres of pulled Gidgee country that has a very thick stand of buffel grass. Location: The Kyong homestead is located approximately 255 km south west of Charters Towers (125 km bitumen), approximately 145 km north of Aramac (60 km bitumen) and 225km south of Pentland on an all gravel road.

Facilities / Services: Charters Towers offers primary and secondary schooling, hospital and medical facilities, government agencies, airport and the usual rural businesses and personal shopping. There are also cattle saleyards and rail trucking facilities at Charters Towers. Aramac has a medical centre and a  primary school, whilst Barcaldine another 64 km to the south has secondary schooling, airport, cattle yards and rail facilities. There is a twice weekly mail service, internet, phone and a very well maintained airstrip that is 1,500 metres long and a registered RFDS strip.

Country: Kyong has a very good mix of semi-open Iron Bark, Paper Bark, Desert Oak forest country that is mostly grassed with soft Spinifex, Native grasses, Forest Mitchell and Seca Stylo with approximately 7,000 acres of pulled Gidgee, Bauhinia, Vinetree and Eucalypt country running back into hard Mulga, Bendee or Lancewood ridges and stoney outcrops. There are also timbered areas of Eucalypt, Wattle and Yellow Jack in the lighter sandy forest type country. There is mostly Eucalypts, Bauhinia, Vinetree & Dead Finish timber on the clay pan or creek flat country. Buffel grass, Urochloa and other native grasses are throughout the improved pulled country. The soil types range from heavy grey/red clay soil to lighter red sandy quick responding soils as well as hard stoney outcrops and ridges.

Waters: Kyong is well watered with 11 dams, 3 permanent springs and 3 bores. The house bore was drilled in 2006 to a depth of 409 metres and is equipped submersible pump and Kubota generator pumping approximately 650 gallons per hour. This water is pumped approximately 7 km through 63mm poly pipe to Christmas Dam supplying several tanks and troughs along the way as well as water to the homestead complex.

Ned’s Bore was drilled in 2003 to a depth of 88 metres and is also equipped with a submersible pump and Kubota generator pumping approximately 1500 gallons per hour through 63mm poly pipe into tanks and troughs and to the middle yards.

Cockatoo Bore drilled in 1994 to a depth of 82 metres is also equipped with submersible pump and Kubota generator suppling tanks and troughs.

The water enclosures are very well set up with tanks and cement troughs with most having good solid cattle protection around them. Two dams are equipped with windmills pumping into tanks and troughs. The balance are unequipped open dams.

Homestead & Quarters: There is a 4 bedroom homestead and also a fully self-contained 3 bedroom guest quarters that are very well maintained and set in an established garden. The homestead power is supplied by a stand-alone solar power system with a 14 KVA backup generator. All houses are air-conditioned and have satellite TV & NBN satellite internet with Wi-Fi installed.

Building Improvements: There is a steel frame hay shed/machinery shed enclosed on three sides, 6 bay steel frame workshop/vehicle shed with 3 cemented bays that are both in very good condition.

Yards & Fencing: Kyong is well fenced into 13 main paddocks and 8 holding paddocks. The majority of the internal fences are 3 wire barb with one fence being a 2 wire electric and another being an old netting fence. They are all well maintained and in good stock proof condition. Boundary fence is dog netting fence on the southern boundary and 3 & 4 Barb new fencing on the other 3 boundaries. Most of the dams or bores are fenced off with a 4 wire barb fence and are equipped with spear traps and holding paddocks. There are two sets of cattle yards. The Middle Yards are a very solid timber yard and in good working condition while the yard near the house are a mixture of steel and timber and are also in very good working condition. Both yards are equipped with branding cradle, crush, head bail, and have water troughs at each yard as well as in the holding yards. There is a set of timber horse yards at the homestead.

Carrying Capacity: The estimated carrying capacity of Kyong in an average season would be 1,100 breeders with replacement heifers.
